SALT & STRAW
Ice cream fanatics are flocking to the recently opened Salt and Straw (240 N. Larchmont Boulevard, Los Angeles, 90004), as the lines stretching out the door will attest.  The Portland, Oregon favorite is housed in a charming-looking place staffed by super friendly counter wizards who serve up sweet temptations like California Peaches and Lemon Crumble, Sea Salt Caramel, and Avocado and Strawberry Sherbert.   Lots of odd and delicious flavors too, to tempt your tongue.  Definitely worth checking out!

LA Metro Coming to the Crenshaw Corridor

The Crenshaw/LAX Line is an under construction mass-transit light rail line project to construct a new 8.5-mile light rail line through southwest Los Angeles. The line will run generally north-south and will connect the Crenshaw District and Leimert Park to Inglewood and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The line will be a part of the Los Angeles County Metro Rail System. When completed, it will run from Jefferson Park in the north to El Segundo in the south with a projected ridership of 16,000.

The project is being planned by Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro). The project has been given high priority by Metro in its long-range plan.  Metro began pre-construction in July 2012.  Heavy construction began in June 2014 and initial revenue service projected to begin by 2019.

2014 Los Angeles Historic Neighborhoods Conference

Join the Los Angeles Department of City Planning and the Los Angeles Conservancy for a day of interactive workshops and networking with historic preservation experts and community stakeholders to learn more about how to protect the unique character of Los Angeles’ historic neighborhoods. The theme of this year’s conference is SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES and the event is open to anyone interested in historic districts and neighborhood conservation. The day will culminate with walking tours of Windsor Village, Country Club Park, and Wilshire Park Historic Preservation Overlay Zones (HPOZs). The conference will take place at Wilshire United Methodist Church, a designated City Historic-Cultural Monument.

CicLAvia Bicycle Event - Ride down Iconic Wilshire Boulevard with No Cars!

Wilshire Boulevard will be closed on June 23 from 9 am to 4 pm for CicLAvia - a bicycle and pedestrian event open to the public and free of charge  ( http://www.ciclavia.org/ ).

Registration is not required and there is no starting or ending point along the route. There will be six miles of car-free, open streets and participants can join at any point along the Wilshire from Grand Avenue downtown to Fairfax Avenue - open to pedestrians, strollers, bikes. There will be Hubs with a street fairs on Wilshire from Curzon to Fairfax and near Wilshire and Western. There will be crossings at La Brea, Western and Vermont.

The event is coupled with Iconic Wilshire Boulevard, part of Pacific Standard Time Presents: Modern Architecture in L.A. Initiated by the Getty it will include programs about the architectural history of Wilshire Boulevard including radio broadcasts by architectural commentator Edward Lifson which will be available for download as free podcasts. The radio series will tell stories that run quickly through Wilshire’s beginnings as a long path through a barley field in 1895, through its pre-WWII boom years to focus on the modern era and new projects.
